    Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to Participate in National Night Out Programs Across the Commonwealth

    Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) will participate in National Night Out™ events across the state this year, reaching thousands of young people, parents, and community leaders and spreading a message against underage and dangerous drinking.

    The PLCB has participated in National Night Out events at dozens of locations statewide by distributing materials on PLCB programs, including Know When. Know How.SM, an award-winning campaign that helps parents talk to their children about the dangers of underage drinking. PLCB Bureau of Alcohol Education staff will offer material for children and provide informational brochures about alcohol-related issues.

    On Tuesday, August 2, the PLCB will join National Night Out events at:

    • Green Valley Park, Rochester, Beaver County, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
    • Antique Depot, Duncansville, Blair County, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
    • Willow Park, Camp Hill, Cumberland County, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Carlisle Fairgrounds, Carlisle, Cumberland County, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Roof Park, New Cumberland, Cumberland County, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Cardinal O'Hara High School Field, Springfield, Delaware County, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Palmyra Middle School Stadium, Palmyra, Lebanon County, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Fox Chase Elementary School, Philadelphia, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • M&T Bank, Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Logan Park, Dillsburg, York County, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

    National Night Out, "America's Night Out Against Crime," began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday of August. The program expects more than 38 million people in about 16,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian communities, and military bases worldwide to participate this year.

    The PLCB works to educate the public about the dangers of underage and dangerous drinking through a variety of avenues, including grants, a free alcohol educational conference, the creation and distribution of a wide range of educational materials, and training and technical assistance for licensees through the Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP) and other organizations working to address the issues related to irresponsible consumption.


    The PLCB regulates the distribution of beverage alcohol in Pennsylvania, operates 600 wine and spirits stores statewide, and licenses 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers, and handlers. The PLCB also works to reduce and prevent dangerous and underage drinking through partnerships with schools, community groups, and licensees. Taxes and store profits – totaling nearly $18.7 billion since the agency's inception – are returned to Pennsylvania's General Fund, which finances Pennsylvania's schools, health and human services programs, law enforcement, and public safety initiatives, among other important public services. The PLCB also provides financial support for the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, other state agencies, and local municipalities across the state.
