Philadelphia – The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) announced that a special birthday toast to Ben Franklin hosted by The Roaster’s Daughter, a Philadelphia-based spirits brand, will take place beginning at 6:00 PM Friday, Jan. 17, at the Fine Wine & Good Spirits (FW&GS) Premium Collection, 1112 Chestnut St., Philadelphia.
A Ben Franklin actor/historian will be on hand to talk about the prominent and historic Philadelphia personality on his birthday (Franklin was born on Jan. 17, 1706). Samples of The Roaster’s Daughter Espresso Martini (Code 100031019; $19.99), a spirits-based drink crafted with premium vodka, 100% Arabica cold brew coffee, and bittersweet cacao, will be offered to those 21 years of age and older.
The Roaster’s Daughter is produced and bottled by Charles Jacquin et Cie., Co., America’s oldest cordial producer, in Philadelphia, the original home of U.S. coffee house culture born during the American Revolution. After the Boston Tea Party, which symbolized the American colonists’ rebellion against British taxation on tea, coffee gained widespread popularity in colonial towns, including Philadelphia. Coffee houses sprang up and became venues for discussions about the impending revolution. As men from Philadelphia departed to join the fight, women began managing the city’s coffee houses. The Roaster’s Daughter pays tribute to these historic coffee houses as it creates coffee beverages on the same cobblestone streets of Philadelphia where the original American coffee houses once stood.
The PLCB regulates the distribution of beverage alcohol in Pennsylvania, operates about 575 wine and spirits stores statewide, and licenses more than 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers, and handlers. The PLCB also works to reduce and prevent dangerous and underage drinking through partnerships with schools, community groups, and licensees. Taxes and store profits – totaling nearly $21.1 billion since the agency’s inception – are returned to Pennsylvania’s General Fund, which finances Pennsylvania’s schools, health and human services programs, law enforcement, and public safety initiatives, among other important public services. The PLCB also provides financial support for the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, other state agencies, and local municipalities across the state.
