Award-winning actor to sign bottles of GoGi Wines
Valley Forge – The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board today announced that award-winning actor Kurt Russell will sign pre-purchased bottles of his GoGi Wines beginning at 11:00 AM Saturday, Oct. 22, at TASTE! Philadelphia Festival of Food, Wine & Spirits at the Valley Forge Casino Resort, 1160 First Ave., King of Prussia.
Robert Osborne of Turner Classic Movies called Russell The Walt Disney Co.'s top star of the 1970s. The Guardian named him one of the best actors never to have received an Academy Award nomination.
At 11 years old, Russell landed his first lead role in the Western series "The Travels of Jaimie McPheeter's." This was followed by additional roles, and Walt Disney himself signed the young actor to a 10-year contract starting at age 12. Russell was named an official Disney Legend in 1998. Russell said it is his favorite award he's ever received.
Russell's childhood dream was not to be an actor, but to play professional baseball. He was a switch-hitting second baseman with the California Angels' minor league organization in the early 1970s but was forced to retire from baseball after injuring his shoulder just as he was promoted to the AAA league. After that, Russell returned to acting.
Starting in the early 1980s, Russell starred in dozens of major motion pictures, including cult classics "Big Trouble in Little China," "Escape From New York," "Miracle," and "Tombstone." Russell also appeared in the action blockbuster franchises "Fast and Furious" and the Marvel Cinematic Universe ("Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"), and he played Santa Claus in Netflix's "The Christmas Chronicles."
In 1984, Russell worked on the movie "Swing Shift," where he fell in love with actress Goldie Hawn. The two have been together ever since and now share a blended family of 4 adult children and 7 grandchildren. They have also shared comedic success on the big screen in the movie "Overboard."
Russell's romance with wine began several years ago on bicycle trips with his family through the great wine regions of France, Italy and California. It was on these trips where he learned to rely on his nose and palate to find the perfect blend that goes into every bottle of GoGi wine. His role in Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof" in 2007 brought him to the renowned wine region of Sta. Rita Hills of California and started his journey into the world of wine production. From his first vintage in 2008, Russell has remained steadfastly "hands-on" in every step of the process, from harvest to blending. Russell's Pinot Noir wines are all named after family members, and his Chardonnay is and always will be called "Goldie."
During the TASTE! event, Russell will sign bottles of his wines and host a special food and wine pairing. While tickets for the pairing are sold out, TASTE! attendees can still purchase the following GoGi wines at an onsite Fine Wine & Good Spirits store and have them signed by Russell:
- GoGi Goldie Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills 2018 (Code 87831), $49.99
- GoGi Erinn Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills 2017 (Code 87832), $69.99
Russell will only sign bottles of GoGi wines purchased on site. No other items will be signed, and attendees cannot bring bottles purchased elsewhere into the TASTE! event. Attendees must be 21 years of age and older to enter TASTE!.
