Overview
To become a certified municipal police officer, you must meet qualifications as specified in Pennsylvania Code Title 37, Chapter 203, Section 203.11. This includes requirements about:
- Age
- Education
- Citizenship
- Criminal convictions
- Reading level
- Physical examination results
- Psychological examination results
- Background investigation results
Applicants must also meet specific training and physical fitness standards. To review the requirements, see our basic training program page and the physical fitness standards for the police academy. If you have not previously met the basic training requirements, you must attend an approved municipal police training course at a certified police academy.
