The gardens
The gardens at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence showcase the natural beauty of our state with native plants, vibrant flowers, and peaceful spaces. Carefully maintained to protect the environment and celebrate Pennsylvania’s heritage, they offer a welcoming place for all to enjoy nature.
Penn's Woods
Part of the Richard C. von Hess Gardens, Penn's Woods features plants native to Pennsylvania. Visitors can explore the state’s trees, flowers, ferns, and other plants that make up its forests and fields. The garden also includes species tied to Pennsylvania’s history and helps connect visitors to the local landscape.
The Jane Shaffer Rose Garden
This garden is among the most colorful spots at the Residence. Dedicated in 1970 by former First Lady Jane Shafer and designed by James Bob of Hershey Estates, it features more than 250 roses in 13 varieties. From mid-May through September, the garden bursts with bright colors and beautiful scents.
