    Local, state, and federal government websites often end in .gov. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania government websites and email systems use "pennsylvania.gov" or "pa.gov" at the end of the address. Before sharing sensitive or personal information, make sure you're on an official state website. 

    In his budget address to the General Assembly, Governor Shapiro called on the State Board of Education to develop recommendations for schools to guarantee recess for students.  The State Board appointed an Ad Hoc Committee on Recess to review evidence-based best practices related to recess and to accept public comment on recess.  The State Board then convened to discuss issues pertaining to recess and adopted recommendations on student access to recess at its public meeting on May 7, 2026. Recommendations Pertaining to Access to Recess for Students (PDF)
