Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) seeks an attorney to serve as University Legal Counsel within PASSHE's Office of the Chief Counsel. This position provides general legal advice to PASSHE universities and/or the Office of the Chancellor, whose mission is: (1) to provide high-quality education at the lowest possible cost to students; (2) to increase educational attainment in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; (3) to prepare students at the undergraduate and graduate levels for professional and personal success in their lives; and (4) to contribute to the economic, social, and cultural development of Pennsylvania's communities, the Commonwealth, and the nation.
This opportunity is based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, though some travel may be required from time to time. While primarily remote, occasional in-office presence in Harrisburg is necessary. The position will be classified as either an Attorney 2 or 3 depending on the level of relevant experience possessed by the successful applicant.
What You'll Do:
Attorneys within PASSHE’s Office of Chief Counsel are responsible for providing general legal advice to assigned university administrative and academic officers and department heads, drafting and reviewing contracts, and performing other work as needed to serve the universities that comprise PASSHE and/or the Office of the Chancellor. Higher education, government and/or labor experience is preferred.
What We’re Looking For:
The successful candidate for this position will have a minimum of three (3) years, with a preference for five (5) or more years, of relevant legal experience handling progressively complex matters; a demonstrated capability for legal research, analysis and reasoning; superior interpersonal and communication skills; an ability to identify and resolve complicated and sensitive problems creatively and with professional discretion; an ability and willingness to handle a wide variety of intricate legal questions both independently and as part of a team; and an ability to interact and function effectively in both an academic community and within a governmental organization. This position frequently requires a thoughtful exercise of confidentiality and independent judgment as well.

Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the Pennsylvania Bar.
- Complete a series of interviews and background checks.
