Lt. Gov. Austin Davis Encourages Dauphin County Technical School Students to Chart Their Own Course

Since the Shapiro-Davis Administration Took Office, 3,000 More Students Have Enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Vo-Tech Classes

Shapiro-Davis 2026-27 Budget Proposal Increases Funding for Apprenticeships, CTE and Vo-Tech Programs by $18 Million

HARRISBURG, PA – In a visit today to the Dauphin County Technical School, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis highlighted how the Shapiro-Davis Administration has boosted funding for workforce development by nearly 50 percent over the past three years and increased the number of students enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) or vocational-technical classes.

Since taking office, the Shapiro-Davis Administration has increased funding for the school by more than $890,000.

“Governor Shapiro and I believe that every Pennsylvania student should have the freedom to chart their own course – whether that means going to college, pursuing an apprenticeship or gaining skills and real-world experience at an institution like the Dauphin County Technical School,” said Davis. “That’s why we’ve increased funding for apprenticeships, CTE and vo-tech education since we took office, and our new budget proposes an additional $18 million in state investments for these critical programs.”

Over the past three years, the Shapiro-Davis Administration has increased funding for CTE, vo-tech education and apprenticeships by nearly 50 percent — raising total spending from $118 million to $183 million. Those investments have already shown results. Since taking office, the Shapiro-Davis Administration has registered 231 new apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs and enrolled nearly 18,000 new apprentices. In addition, 3,000 more students have enrolled in vo-tech and CTE classes as a result of these investments.

“At Dauphin County Technical School, we believe in setting high expectations and giving students the tools to meet them,” said Dauphin County Technical School Administrative Director Jason Civitello. “We’re grateful for the leadership of Governor Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Davis in recognizing that career and technical education is no longer an alternative but a primary pathway to success. These investments allow us to continue building a culture of work ethic, leadership and real-world readiness, preparing our students to thrive and strengthening Pennsylvania’s future workforce.”

The Shapiro-Davis budget for 2026-27 proposes an additional $18 million in apprenticeships, CTE and vo-tech programs, bringing that total funding growth to more than $81 million, a nearly 70 percent increase since taking office.
