Renew Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training Certification

If you are a patrolman, detective, or criminal investigator who must carry and use lethal weapons, follow these steps to renew your Act 235 certification.

Those who are currently certified are permitted to apply for certification renewal once they are within six months of their current certification expiration date.

Certification under Act 235 is typically valid for five years.

By regulation, certification may not be renewed once it expires. Certified individuals who do not apply for renewal prior to expiration will be required to apply for initial certification.

Individuals whose certification expired during qualifying military service may be eligible for special consideration and should contact our staff for further guidance.

Certification Renewal

Municipal Police Officers who are currently certified under Act 120 are waived of renewal training requirements but must still submit the TACS application for review.

Training waivers may be granted for other individuals who completed at least three (3) hours of formal law enforcement training within the past 5 years and/or law enforcement firearms training or qualification within the past year.

Recertification Steps

  1. Log into the TACS website using your last name, full birthday, and full social security number to complete a renewal application and pay the $30 application fee.
