​Albion, PA – Patricia Thompson, superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Albion, reported that inmate Curtis Waugaman II, 56, was found unresponsive in his cell on March 20, 2024.  Prison staff immediately responded and provided life-saving measures until facility medial personnel arrived. Waugaman was transferred to the infirmary where life-sustaining measures continued to be performed until outside EMS arrived. Waugaman was pronounced deceased at 8:35 p.m. 

Waugaman was convicted of DUI: Highest Rate of Alcohol (BAC .16+) 3rd offense 75.3802.C out of Butler County and entered the state DOC at SCI Pittsburgh on May 9, 2013. He was paroled from SCI Fayette on April 27, 2022 and returned to SCI Albion on March 19, 2024 as a parole violator. 

In accordance with state policy, Pennsylvania State Police were notified and will conduct an investigation.  The official cause of death will be determined by the Erie County Coroner's Office.

The inmate's next of kin has been notified.
