Governor Corbett Appoints Lieutenant Governor Cawley to Delaware River Port Authority

Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett today announced his appointment of Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley to the board of commissioners of the Delaware River Port Authority, or DRPA.

“With his strong track record in bringing together government and community leaders, Jim is the perfect choice to further DRPA’s mission,” Corbett said. “I have no doubt that he will provide strong counsel to the board as they seek the best ways to provide safe, reliable, customer-friendly transportation to the people of southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.”

Cawley replaces the current chairman, David Simon, who has resigned his post and has been appointed as chairman of Pennsylvania’s eHealth Partnership Authority.

”We thank David for his hard work and dedication to the Delaware River Port Authority,” said Jeff Nash, DRPA Vice Chair.  “We look forward to working with Lieutenant Governor Cawley and are confident he will serve DRPA well.”

Cawley was inaugurated as the 32nd lieutenant governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on Jan. 18, 2011.

As lieutenant governor, he serves as the president of the Senate, oversees the Board of Pardons and chairs the governor’s Local Government Advisory Committee.

In 2011, Governor Corbett appointed Cawley to chair the Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission, which for the first time brought together representatives from the natural gas industry, environmental advocacy groups, academia and state and local government.  He also led the disaster recovery task force after Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene in 2011. He is a former Bucks County commissioner.

The Delaware River Port Authority of Pennsylvania and New Jersey is a regional transportation agency.

DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, and Betsy Ross bridges. All four bridges are part of the E-ZPass Electronic Toll Collection network.

Through a subsidiary, the Port Authority Transit Corp., DRPA runs PATCO, and also owns the RiverLink Ferry and the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal.
