Governor Corbett Issues Statement on Passing of Richard Scaife

Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett today made the following statement on the passing of Richard Scaife:

“The passing of publisher, philanthropist and Pittsburgh icon Dick Scaife marks the departure of a man whose vision and generosity shaped the city’s progress and our nation’s course.

“His contributions to civic causes helped to preserve Pittsburgh’s landmarks and filled the walls of its museums with artwork that captured the beauty and nuance of life.

“His investment in think-tanks reshaped our nation’s political dialogue and delivered the opening salvos in the Reagan revolution, replacing tired nostrums with vigorous new ideas for progress.

“His dedication to journalism helped to preserve the tradition of an informed citizenry and continues to provide essential oversight of our government institutions.

“Sue and I join all Pennsylvanians in expressing our sympathy to Dick’s family and gratitude for his legacy as a publisher, philanthropist and visionary.”
