Governor Corbett Announces Keystone Communities Grant to Support Downtown Improvements in Montgomery County

Harrisburg–Governor Tom Corbett today announced that the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) awarded the Ardmore Business District Authority a $50,000 Keystone Communities grant to support downtown commercial enhancement through façade improvements.

“We are partnering with local communities to encourage downtown improvements,” said Corbett. “Through the investments announced today, Ardmore will continue to grow local businesses and create a stronger community for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

The Ardmore Business District Authority, doing business as The Ardmore Initiative, will utilize the funding to continue a façade improvement program in the downtown commercial district. The Initiative expects to complete more than 10 façade improvement projects which would include exterior painting, replacement of doors and windows, new lighting, signage and awnings. These improvements will help create an attractive, pedestrian-friendly downtown, which is one of the goals of the “Walk Ardmore” campaign.

“The Ardmore Initiative is very pleased to receive this grant from DCED so that we can continue to assist business and property owners to improve their facades, and thereby create a more vibrant and welcoming downtown,” said Michael Coughlan, Chair, The Ardmore Initiative. “This grant also allows us to provide design recommendations and a degree of oversight to ensure an attractive streetscape.”

The Keystone Communities program was created in 2011 to assist commonwealth communities in achieving redevelopment. The program supports physical improvements to both designated and other communities that are undertaking revitalization to restore deteriorated downtowns, residential neighborhoods and industrial/manufacturing sites.
