Governor Corbett Proclaims May 7 as State Employee Recognition Day

Harrisburg – In appreciation of the hard work and dedication of state employees to serving the people of Pennsylvania, Governor Corbett has proclaimed May 7 as State Employee Recognition Day.

“Millions of Pennsylvanians benefit every day from programs and services delivered by state employees,” said Corbett.  “Over the past three years, state employees have helped the commonwealth save over $650 million by developing new and innovative ways to run government.”

State Employee Recognition Day was established in 2001 by the National Association of State Personnel Executives (NASPE) and the National Governors Association.  According to NASPE, there are nearly 2 million state government employees across the nation. In Pennsylvania, nearly 74,000 full-time employees work in state agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction.

Also today, PSECU presented a $2,500 donation on behalf of state employees to the commonwealth’s annual charitable giving campaign, known as the State Employee Combined Appeal.  Last year, state employees pledged nearly $3 million to hundreds of organizations through SECA.

“In addition to being public servants, many of our employees actively serve their communities,” said Corbett.  “And through programs such as the annual State Employee Combined Appeal and Holiday Wish Program, state employees demonstrate their generosity to those in need, both here in the commonwealth and around the world.”
