Governor Corbett Releases Statement on Passing of State Senator Hal Mowery

Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett released the following statement on the passing of former state Senator Hal Mowery.

“Susan and I were saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and ally, Hal Mowery.

“In his three decades of public service, Hal offered quiet leadership and great wisdom to both his district and to the entire commonwealth.

“He came to the general assembly with the background of a small businessman, and the common sense and sense of responsibility that role embodies. One of the greatest examples was his leadership in the field of lawsuit reform and the passage of legislation that better protects all sides in liability cases.

“In 1990, his party tapped Hal as its candidate for Lieutenant Governor. Many Pennsylvanians outside his district did not know him at the time, but were impressed when they met the quiet, steady, self-effacing man whose charm and modesty defied political stereotypes.

“We send our condolences to his wife Phyllis, his children and grandchildren.”
