Governor Corbett Issues Statement on Closing of Two Verizon Wireless Call Centers

Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett today issued the following statement in response to Verizon Wireless’ decision to close five customer contact centers across the United States. Two of those customer call centers are in Pennsylvania, including one in Cranberry Township and one in Warrendale.

“I believe Pennsylvania has the best workforce in the world, and our focus is now to assure these workers full employment,” said Corbett. “Upon learning of Verizon Wireless’ decision to close two call centers, I directed the Commonwealth Secretary of Labor and Industry to take action.  Our Rapid Response workforce teams are ready to work diligently to identify opportunities for these skilled and loyal employees.”

The Department of Labor & Industry’s Rapid Response unit provides workers who are facing a layoff with information on retraining, continuing education, job-seeking, health insurance and unemployment benefits to help them transition to re-employment.
