Governor Corbett Tours Caterpillar Facility; Meets with Employees Who Will Continue to Work in York

York – Governor Tom Corbett today visited Caterpillar Inc.’s York Distribution Center to praise the company’s commitment to its workforce through new investments, securing employment for 200 workers at the site.

Our workforce is the engine that is driving our state to economic prosperity,” Corbett said. “The tenacity and dedication of our workers is one of the reasons we’ve been able to, over the last two and a half years, create more than 130,000 new private-sector jobs.”

Last week, Caterpillar announced it will remain at its 1.1 million-square-foot facility in Springettsbury Township, York. The company will purchase and modernize the York Distribution Center to enhance Caterpillar’s capabilities to meet customer needs. The project will reaffirm the company’s commitment to the region and secure the jobs of 200 workers.

“We are excited the decision was made to invest in the existing facility,” said Facility Manager Jim Paprocki. "We have a very talented and committed group of employees here, and we are anxious to get started on the work ahead."

This announcement comes on the 60th anniversary of Caterpillar’s presence in York County. In 1953, Caterpillar opened the parts distribution center as one of the largest and most modern distribution centers in the United States, using technology such as an automated crane system and computerized inventory management.

“As this facility celebrates its 60th anniversary, we stand with Caterpillar and the workers to hopefully kick off the beginning of the next 60 years,” Corbett said.

For more than 85 years, Caterpillar Inc. has been making sustainable progress possible and driving positive change on every continent. Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. The company also is a leading services provider through Caterpillar Financial Services, Caterpillar Remanufacturing Services, Caterpillar Logistics Services and Progress Rail Services.
